Chicago (49,603 cases) and Cook County (35,581 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,399, while Cook County recorded 1,807 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,209,612, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,714 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 62,918 were male and 67,518 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,461, while female deaths stood at 2,858.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,778 Asians, 2,778 whites, 1,800 African-Americans, 1,261 Hispanics, and 189 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
