Chicago (58,445 cases) and Cook County (42,966 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,747, while Cook County recorded 2,075 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,432,523, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 30,202 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 79,221 were male and 86,276 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,981, while female deaths stood at 3,399.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,286 Asians, 3,286 whites, 2,030 African-Americans, 1,537 Hispanics, and 182 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
