Chicago (66,138 cases) and Cook County (49,822 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,828, while Cook County recorded 2,134 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,366,851, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 39,076 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 96,490 were male and 105,771 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,178, while female deaths stood at 3,562.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,489 Asians, 3,489 whites, 2,098 African-Americans, 1,595 Hispanics, and 196 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
