Chicago (73,346 cases) and Cook County (57,732 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,894, while Cook County recorded 2,200 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,418,372, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 49,682 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 116,849 were male and 127,778 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,404, while female deaths stood at 3,762.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,780 Asians, 3,780 whites, 2,163 African-Americans, 1,648 Hispanics, and 208 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
