Chicago (73,634 cases) and Cook County (57,988 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,896, while Cook County recorded 2,201 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,447,347, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 50,002 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 117,531 were male and 128,468 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,410, while female deaths stood at 3,764.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,783 Asians, 3,783 whites, 2,163 African-Americans, 1,652 Hispanics, and 209 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
