Chicago (73,956 cases) and Cook County (58,445 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,898, while Cook County recorded 2,202 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,526,739, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 50,654 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 118,817 were male and 129,888 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,429, while female deaths stood at 3,780.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,809 Asians, 3,809 whites, 2,168 African-Americans, 1,657 Hispanics, and 208 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
