Chicago (74,894 cases) and Cook County (59,458 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,913, while Cook County recorded 2,215 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,688,976, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 52,076 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 121,797 were male and 133,050 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,469, while female deaths stood at 3,826.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,862 Asians, 3,862 whites, 2,176 African-Americans, 1,672 Hispanics, and 211 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
