Chicago (75,409 cases) and Cook County (59,865 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,916, while Cook County recorded 2,218 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,771,796, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 52,718 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 123,204 were male and 134,468 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,478, while female deaths stood at 3,836.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,878 Asians, 3,878 whites, 2,180 African-Americans, 1,679 Hispanics, and 201 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
