Chicago (75,842 cases) and Cook County (60,404 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,923, while Cook County recorded 2,223 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,863,138, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 53,386 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 124,712 were male and 136,314 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,502, while female deaths stood at 3,865.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,911 Asians, 3,911 whites, 2,191 African-Americans, 1,689 Hispanics, and 199 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
