Chicago (77,486 cases) and Cook County (62,097 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,933, while Cook County recorded 2,234 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 5,143,387, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 55,143 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 128,626 were male and 140,393 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,548, while female deaths stood at 3,902.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,965 Asians, 3,965 whites, 2,199 African-Americans, 1,705 Hispanics, and 203 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
