Fairfield FD responds to 20 fires in 2018

Fairfield Fire District responded to 41 calls in 2018 - 16.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Fairfield included 20 fires - 14 structure fires, two vehicle fires and four other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $111,350 in fire loss - or about $5,568 per fire.

The department also received 20 false calls, including one malicious call and 19 other false calls.

The Fairfield Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $21,413 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $857 for every fire in 2017.
