Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education Met Nov. 9.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Kyle Peach, Ryan Peter, Neil Earnest, and Theresa Hocking. Jared Alka was absent.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, Jake Newkirk –MCJSH Principal, Tyler Buss –MCHS Assistant Principal, Brianne Foster–MCGS Principal, Sheila Odom– MCES Principal, Steve Holt –Chief of Operations-MCJSH, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Corey Woolsey –MC Register, Brianna Witsman –Instructional Technology, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Kyle Buss –Athletic Director, Kristi Perry –Teacher, Betsy Ross–WCTA, Dawn Drone – WCEA, Community: Christy McPherson, Doug McPherson, Magee Bleyer, Maya Smith, Haley Wright, Allie McPherson, Taylor Roosevelt, Rayce Loudermilk, Kinze Cusick, Kami Pearson, Luke Laws, Noah Noble, Zach Allen, Eli Swanson, Maleah Armstrong, Lexi Fisher, Grace Adams, Abigail Plassman, Makayla Beesley, Taelyn Morehead, Rachael Johnson, Noah Martin, Sarah Dougherty, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Hocking and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent.
Reports – Sharon Thombleson –Director of Transportation
Ms. Thombleson noted that protocols were being followed on the buses. She did have to do some re-routing this year in order to keep better track of the riders. She noted that the riders had assigned seats.
Brianna Witsman reported to the board that she was still in the trial period for interactive remote learning.
Community Group Concern
A group from the community was represented by Doug McPherson in regards to winter sports. The group was asking the board to allow winter sports to take place.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, and dismissal of specific employees.”
At 7:25 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Janice Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent.
Open Session
A motion to return to open session was made by Janice Alka and seconded by Peter. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent. The meeting returned to open session at 8:05 p.m.
Closed Minutes Approved
Janice Alka moved to approve the minutes of the closed session as read in closed session. Peter seconded the motion. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent.
New Business
Tax Levy 2020 payable in 2021
Dr. Bleyer advised the board that the tax levy would be displayed for one month. A Truth in Taxation hearing will take place on December 14, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. prior to the regular board meeting.
Employment of Personnel
A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Janice Alka and seconded by Earnest:

Lori Kroll -Brownsville School Individual Assistant beginning November 10, 2020 Sydnee Etheridge -MCGS Lunch Recess Assistant beginning November 6, 2020
TRANSFERS
Malynn McGee -MCGS 4th Grade RtI Assistant beginning October 19, 2020 All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Board Members Kyle Peach, Ryan Peter, and Neil Earnest voiced their opinions regarding the commencement of winter sports. Dr. Bleyer thanked the community for their support and concern. He also let them know that sports practices were proceeding and the board was working towards having winter sports if at all possible.

A motion to adjourn was made by Janice Alka and seconded by Peter. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Jared Alka was absent. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
