Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education Met Feb. 22.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348 met in Regular Session on Monday, February 22, 2021 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

Vice President Earnest called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Kyle Peach, Ryan Peter, Neil Earnest, Kevin Raber, and Theresa Hocking. Tim Schuler was absent.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, Jake Newkirk –MCJSH Principal, Brianne Foster–MCGS Principal, Steve Holt –MCHS/MCJHS COO, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Betsy Ross – WCTA, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

Earnest led the pledge to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Peter. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, dismissal of specific employees, and student discipline.”

At 7:05 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Peach and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

Open Session

A motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent. The meeting returned to open session at 7:28 p.m.

Closed Minutes Approved

Alka moved to approve the minutes of the closed session as read in closed session. Hocking seconded the motion. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

New Business

Resolution

Dr. Bleyer told the board that approving the resolution for the issue of $300,000 taxable General Obligation Refunding School Bonds would reduce the current interest rate and reduce the amount of time to pay off the bonds. Peter motioned to approved the recommendation and Hocking seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

2021-2022 School Calendar

Peach motioned to approved the proposed 2021-2022 school calendar. The motion was seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

Student Discipline

Peach recommended that Student (BZ) be expelled not to exceed (1) year for violating the Student Behavior Section of the District Governing Student Conduct as found in the Student Handbook of the District. The motion was seconded by Peter. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Raber:

Sandra Warren -MCGS 4th Grade Special Education Assistant transferring to 4th Grade RTI Assistant beginning February 8, 2021

Malynn McGee -MCGS 4th Grade RTI Assistant transferring to 4th Grade Special Education Assistant beginning February 8, 2021

EXTRA-CURRICULAR VOLUNTEERS FOR 2020-2021

List Attached

All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent.

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Tim Schuler was absent. Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
