Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board met April 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348 met in Regular Session in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Kyle Peach, Neil Earnest, and Theresa Hocking. Ryan Peter and Kevin Raber were absent.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, Jake Newkirk–MCJSH Principal, Brianne Foster–MCGS Principal, Sheila Odom–MCES Principal, Steve Holt– MCHS/MCJHS COO, Kevin Madden–WSJD, Corey Woolsy–MC Register, Betsy Ross– WCTA, Danielle Ewald-Teacher, Donny Coston-Visitor, Seamus Smith–Baseball Coach, Craig Keepes–Visitor, Jamie Keepes–Visitor, Jared Sellers–Visitor, Michael Lewis–Visitor, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

Review of Election Results

Dr. Bleyer read the results from the Consolidated General Election held April 6, 2021 as certified by Janet Will –Wabash County Clerk.

Theresa Hocking               652 votes 

Kyle Peach                        760 votes 

Tim Schuler                       599 votes 

Mary Susan Wood             540 votes 

Seating of New Board 

Mary Susan (Suzie) Wood was asked to come up and join the Board. 

Oath of Office 

All the Board members stood and recited the Board Members’ Oath of Office. 

Appoint President Pro Tem 

Tim Schuler was appointed President Pro Tem 

No Secretary Pro Tem was appointed due to having a recording secretary already present. 

Election of Board President 

President Pro Tem Schuler asked for nominations for Board President. Neil Earnest nominated Tim Schuler. There were no other nominations, therefore by a show of hands Tim Schuler was elected President of the Board.

Election of Board Vice President

President Schuler asked for nominations for Vice President. Neil Earnest nominated Kyle Peach. Kyle Peach nominated Neil Earnest. There were no other nominations. President Schuler asked for a show of hands for the two nominees. The results were 5 to 1 in favor of Kyle Peach. Kyle Peach was elected Vice President of the Board.

Election of Board Secretary

President Schuler asked for nominations for Board Secretary. Tim Schuler nominated Janice Alka. There were no other nominations, therefore by a show of hands Janice Alka was elected Board Secretary.

Establish Date, Time, and Place of Regular Meetings

Dr. Bleyer recommended to the Board that the regular board meetings be held on the third Monday of each month. They will be at the MCGS Cafetorium at 7:00 p.m. If there is a holiday on the third Monday, then the meeting will be held the following Monday.

Hocking motioned to accept the recommendation and Earnest seconded the motion. All present voted Aye. Ryan Peter was absent. Motion Carried.

Appoint District Treasurer

Dr. Bleyer recommended that Darlene Underwood continue as District Treasurer. A motion to accept his recommendation was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Ryan Peter was absent. Motion Carried.

Adjourn

A motion to adjourn was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Ryan Peter was absent. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.

Regular Board Meeting

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Schuler led the pledge to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Hocking and seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.

Reports

Dr. Bleyer updated the Board on the end of the year activities. Tracee Bleyer played an Aces TV video about the #10 pump at Marathon Gas Station and also a video highlighting updates to the district website and the Aces App.

Visitors

Donny Coston and Seamus Smith requested that the Board allow Junior High baseball and softball to be added to fall sports. President Schuler noted that their request would be taken under consideration.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, and dismissal of specific employees.”

President Schuler asked if any of the board members wanted to go into executive session. No one asked to have an executive session.
