Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met June 21

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Special Session in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the Hearing to order at 6:45 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Ryan Peter, Susie Wood, and Theresa Hocking.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, Steve Holt –MCJSH COO, Sheila Odom –MCES Principal, Brianne Foster –MCGS Principal, Jake Newkirk-MCJSH Principal, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Shae Smith –Baseball Coach, Danielle Ewald –WCTA, Betsy Ross –WCTA, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Abbey Leighty –Teacher, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Corey Woolsey–Mt. Carmel Register, Donnie Coston –Parent, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

Schuler turned the meeting over to Superintendent Bleyer who gave a presentation regarding the amended budget highlights for the 2020-2021 school year.

President Schuler asked if anyone had any questions regarding the amended budget. There were no questions.

Alka moved to adjourn the meeting and Hocking seconded the motion. All present voted aye. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m.

Regular Board Meeting

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, June 21, 2021 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Ryan Peter, Susie Wood, and Theresa Hocking.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, Steve Holt –MCJSH COO, Sheila Odom –MCES Principal, Brianne Foster –MCGS Principal, Jake Newkirk-MCJSH Principal, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Shae Smith –Baseball Coach, Danielle Ewald –WCTA, Betsy Ross –WCTA, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Abbey Leighty –Teacher, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Corey Woolsey–Mt. -Closed Meeting Minutes Review and Destruction of Executive Session audio tapes older than 18 months per provision of Section 2.06 of the Open Meetings Act.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. .

Reports

Travis Bushue – District Insurance Bids and recommendation

Mr. Bushue presented a summary of all bids to the Board. His recommendation was for the renewal through ISDA/WCSIT/Brokers’ Risk for a premium of $214,109. This plan keeps the Student Accident insurance with Gerber Life.

Visitors

Kyle Peach – Hall of Fame

Mr. Peach gave a presentation to the board regarding an idea for a Hall of Fame for District #348. This Hall of Fame would be located in the High School gym lobby on a new TouchPros board.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, and dismissal of specific employees.”

At 7:29 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Earnest. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Open Session

A motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Wood. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. The meeting returned to open session at 7:29 p.m.

Closed Minutes Approved

Alka moved to approve the minutes of the closed session as read in closed session. Peach seconded the motion. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

New Business

2020-2021 Amended Budget

A motion to approve the amended 2020-2021 amended budget was made by Peter and seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Insurance Bids

A motion to approve the recommendation was for the renewal through ISDA/WCSIT/Brokers’ Risk for a premium of $214,109 was made by Earnest. The motion was seconded by Peach. . A roll call vote was taken. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. .

2021-2022 Schedule of Fees

A motion to approve the 2021-2022 Schedule of Fees was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

2021-2022 Board Meeting Dates

A motion to approve the 2021-2022 Board Meeting Dates was made by Peter and seconded by Wood. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Junior High Athletics

A motion to approve junior high athletics (including baseball and softball) was made by Peter and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

A motion to adjourn was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
