Miller blames inflation on 'reckless' spending by Congress, Biden's economic agenda

Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-Danville) fears where the country could be headed if Democrats in Washington get more of their way.

“Democrats want to pass Build Back Broke without knowing how much it cost,” she posted on Twitter. “The crushing inflation that is causing prices to go up and the value of our paychecks & savings to go down is the result of reckless spending by Congress and Biden’s plan is to tax & spend even more.”

Miller hasn’t been shy about questioning the merits of President Biden’s Build Back Better plan, taking to Twitter earlier this month to blast it over the supply chain crisis and rising inflation rates.

"Prices keep going up, shelves are empty, the government is forcing companies to fire people and everyone is losing hope.”

"Is this 'Building Back Better?'" Miller wrote in an Oct. 13 tweet.

Miller has long been critical of what she sees as the Biden administration's wayward policies. Back in June, she questioned Education Secretary Miguel Cardona about guidance the U.S. Department of Education released on the treatment of transgender athletes in schools, according to the Chambana Sun.

"Mr. Secretary, I'm truly shocked at your position on these issues. While I have nothing but sympathy for those who struggle with gender confusion, instead of offering kids help, your department is planning to punish schools who attempt to protect girls' privacy and support female athletics," Miller said during an Education and Labor Committee hearing, according to the Chambana Sun. "Our school administration and teachers have better things to do than to enforce the Biden administration's extreme gender ideology."

In a link attached to a Nov. 10 tweet, Miller shared a piece from Wirepoints calling for more to be done to aid the manufacturing industry across the state in the wake of the state having lost upwards of 300,000 jobs since 2000.

Since the Great Recession, the state has lost in the neighborhood of 120,000 jobs, even as all of its neighbors have recovered the jobs they lost and more. Back then, Wirepoints reports the state boasted nearly 900,000 manufacturing jobs. Today, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics pegs the number down to 552,000 positions.

With the state now poised to pour hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies into the electric vehicle industry, Wirepoints researchers asserted “that’s not something that can be fixed by throwing taxpayer subsidies at a few favored industries. Yet like the politicians before them, Illinois’ current leaders are more interested in propping up one 'popular' and green-friendly industry than actually creating a business environment where all manufacturing enterprises can thrive.”

Over the spring, Miller was joined at a fundraiser in her district by fellow Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). The South Cook News reported Greene said her visit to Miller’s neck of the woods was the first trip she made to support a colleague.

Greene added that Miller needed support from her constituents because as patriots "we aren't the popular girls in Washington," according to South Cook News.
