Michael Garbo, a former Drug Enforcement Administration supervisory special agent, died after pulling over a passenger on an Amtrak train in Arizona. Now, Rep. Adam Niemerg wants to honor the agent’s service.
To do so, he presented House Joint Resolution 0067.
“The House passed my HJR 0067 to honor the service and life of DEA Special Agent Michael Garbo from Grayville,” he wrote on Facebook.
Garbo was known for his work ethic.
On the House floor to present the resolution, Niemerg said, “Special Agent Garbo was born in Grayville in 1970. He graduated from Granville high school and attended Eastern Illinois University.
“He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a former police officer for the metro Nashville Police Department and was currently serving as special agent of the DEA based in Arizona, a position he held since 2005. Special Agent Garbo was a dedicated father and husband who devoted his life to serving and caring for others. He enjoyed martial arts, spending time with his family, and watching his daughter succeed in every aspect of her life. He will be greatly missed.”
Garbo's funeral was held Oct. 8, in Tucson, Ariz., with a law enforcement procession. The services were live-streamed for individuals who could not attend.
House Joint Resolution 0067 designates a four-mile stretch of Interstate 64 (between mile markers 128 and 132) for the fallen DEA agent.
