Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met April 25.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, April 25, 2022 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.
President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Theresa Hocking, Ryan Peter, and Susan Wood.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Telisa Laws –Pre-K Teacher, Brandy Wright –MCES, Ravyn Drone –MCHS Art Teacher, Jamie McCorkle –Parent, Ivan Holt –Student, Kale Calvert –
ADG, Tessa Hargrave –Pre-K, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Dr. Bleyer mentioned to the Board that many good things were happening in the District. Three students competed in the State Science Fair. The CEO program had a successful Trade Show and the Girls’ softball team has gone undefeated.
Public Comment
There were no public comments.
Reports
Ravyn Drone –MCHS Art Teacher spoke about the art program. They will be having an Art Exibit on Friday, April 29th, featuring the students’ artwork.
Steve Holt introduced his son, Ivan Holt who was awarded the prestigious IHSA All State Academic Team award for this school year.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.
At 7:24 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
At 8:00 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Hocking and seconded by Peter. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
New Business
Truck Bids
President Schuler announced the winning bids for two older trucks in the District. Erin Cunningham’s bid of $1,006.00 was the winning bid for the 1992 Chevy truck and Darrin Harrington’s bid of $873.00 was the winning bid for the 1998 Dodge Truck. A motion to approve the winning bids was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Stadium Renovation Bids
Kale Calvert from ADG spoke to the Board regarding the Stadium Renovation Bids. The winning bid was from ARC Construction for a total of $734,880. A motion to approve the winning bid was made by Earnest and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Employment of Personnel
A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka:

During the March board meeting, Susie Wood had requested a Moment of Silence be placed on the future board meeting agendas. President Schuler told her he would pole the board members as to whether they were in agreement. He explained to Ms. Wood that the consensus of the Board was not to place a moment of silence on the agenda.
