Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met May 16.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.
President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Theresa Hocking, and Susan Wood. Ryan Peter was absent.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Jamie McCorkle –Parent, Jeff LaVarier, Deana LaVarier, Faith LaVarier , Jed Moore, Amber Moore, Zedrick Moore, Zeme Moore, Ava Brumagin, Clint Harrison, Mallory Harrison, Sarah Dougherty, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Wood and seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.
Public Comment
There were no public comments.
Reports
Sarah Dougherty-8th Grade Science Teacher introduced three students who competed in the Science Fair: Faith LaVarier, Zeme Moore, and Ava Brumagin. Each student presented their project to the Board.
Dr. Bleyer told the Board the MCHS Stadium Project was in the stabilization phase and was progressing well.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.
At 7:19 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.
At 7:49 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Hocking and seconded by Earnest. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.
New Business
Amended 2021-2022 Budget
Dr. Bleyer did a short review of the amended 2021-2022 budget. He noted that the budget will change again when the school year actually ends. A motion to accept the amended budget was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Ryan Peter was absent.
WCEA Contract
The Board Proposal to the WCEA was voted on and passed unanimously.
Employment of Personnel
A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Wood and seconded by Alka:

Susie Wood noted that she had attended Honors Night at the High School and was very impressed with the number of students who received scholarships.
