In a Sept. 7 news release, Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Teutopolis) announced that he was returning $22,084.28 to taxpayers.

“When families in my district and all over Illinois are struggling with rising fuel costs, higher property taxes, and inflation in the economy, I believe it is important to set an example and spend less of other people's money," Niemerg said. "The Governor and majority party in the legislature should show real leadership and stop spending other people's money like it grows on trees. They should stop raising taxes on things like gasoline that hurts families, seniors on fixed incomes and all taxpayers and small businesses.”

According to the news release, Niemerg has returned $33,706.73 of taxpayer dollars back to the General Fund since he was elected to the Illinois General Assembly.

Niemerg has also been a vocal opponent of the SAFE-T Act as well during his tenure. In August, he tweeted: “The intent of the SAFE-T act is to increase crime in the suburbs," Niemerg said. "It’s get-even politics from the bill's sponsor. If you don’t believe me then check the record on the last night of session this year. It has nothing to do with SAFETY……as one can clearly see…”

He has also spoken about the House's formation of groups to focus on abortion and gun legislation. "Folks, we have some of the most anti-life anti-gun laws in the nation. Yet the Democrats want to take it even further. Not one Republican was invited to participate, how’s that for inclusion and equity?" Niemerg said.

Niemerg is running unopposed in November's general election.
