Village of Smithton Committee as a Whole met Oct. 25.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Mayor Smallwood called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at Village Hall. Trustees Becherer, Rogers, Elbe, Henning, Mourey, and Hopkins were in attendance. Mr. Jason Sprengel and Supervisor Dean Klein were also in attendance.
REMODELING PERMITS – Discussion was had about permits for remodeling. It was determined that more discussion is needed.
POCKET PARK – Putting in a pocket park on the Village owned property at the corner of S. Hickory and Jo Mar was discussed. Trustee Henning will get quotes on playground equipment, pavilion, picnic tables and trash cans.
CDs – Trustee Becherer reported that there are 2 CDs coming due in November. Trustee Becherer will be talking with local banks to see what their current rates are.
STREET CREEP – There is concern about street creep happening to resident’s driveways. Trustee Rogers asked if we needed an updated ordinance with mandatory requirements on expansion joints. Supervisor Klein will be reaching out to IDOT for some additional information on what steps we might be able to take to resolve this ongoing issue.
BACKHOE – Supervisor Klein reported that he is looking at a different backhoe. He will talk with the person who is selling the backhoe to see what his best price is.
POLICE VEHICLE – Trustee Elbe presented the board with an inventory list of Police Department vehicles. He stated that we should order the next police vehicle at the end of November because it takes at least 6 months to get a vehicle. Getting idle hours on our current police vehicles was discussed. Setting up a vehicle maintenance schedule for Police Department and Street Department vehicles was discussed. Trustee Rogers will be talking with Meckfessel to see what the cost would be for them to handle some of our regular maintenance.
PARK TRAIL UPGRADES – Trustee Henning stated that he has the estimates for the costs involved with the park trail upgrades. Getting preliminary work done on the trail during the winter was determined to begin Phase 1.
FENCE REPAIR – Constructing a fence to protect the new building at the park was discussed. As an alternative it was suggested to get posts and netting. It was asked to get a price on what the posts and net will be.
VILLAGE HALL SIGN – Jason Sprengel was in attendance to provide some sign suggestions. A stainless steel sign was recommended. Sprengel will put together some examples with Village of Smithton lettering and costs.
CHRISTMAS BONUSES – It was agreed to give the same amount of employee Christmas bonuses as was done the last several years.
Trustee Rogers made a motion which was seconded by Trustee Elbe to adjourn. All were in favor. Motion was granted. Meeting adjourned at 9:02 pm.
