Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met Dec. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met for a Public Hearing and Regular Session on Monday, December 19, 2022 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

Working Cash Fund Bonds

The Public Hearing concerned the intent of the board to sell $2,200,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds. President Schuler asked if there were any comments or questions. There were none.

President Schuler closed the hearing.

Regular Meeting

President Tim Schuler called the regular meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Ryan Peter, Kyle Peach, Susan Wood, Neil Earnest, and Theresa Hocking.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, MCGS Asst. Principal Tyler Buss, Darlene Underwood- Treasurer, Michelle Smith –Kemper Group, Sara Ditterline-MCES, Ashton Gordon – MCES, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Kristi Perry –WCTA, Jamie McCorkle, Jon Miller –Parent, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Reports

Ashton Gordon –Transitional Kindergarten

Ms. Gordon gave an update to the board regarding Transitional Kindergarten. She said the class has been very successful for the students.

MCGS Principal Brianne Foster and Assistant Principal Tyler Buss

Ms. Foster and Mr. Buss talked about the programs at the grade school. They are working on fun incentives for the students to learn.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer mentioned that the flu had hit the schools very hard. Also that the Plaza Bricks are selling very well.

Kemper Group Audit Findings

Michelle Smith reviewed the 2021-2022 audit findings with the board.

Public Comments

There were no public comments.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.

At 7:33 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Approved by the Board of Education on January 23, 2023

At 8:00 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

New Business

Tax Levy Payable in 2023

A motion to approve the Tax Levy Payable in 2023 was made by Hocking and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

2021-2022 School Audit

A motion to approve the 21-22 school audit as presented was made by Alka and seconded by Peter. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Substitute Pay

A motion to accept Dr. Bleyer’s recommendation to raise sub pay daily rates was made by Wood and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

The new daily rates are as follows:

Aides $100

Teachers $120

Custodians $104

Kitchen $91

Bus Drivers $68

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Wood:

Lindsay Keepes -MCES Nurse/Secretary starting the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year Kristi Perry -MCGS 6th Grade ZAP Program Tutor starting January 4, 2023

NON-CERTIFIED

Mike Geurin -MCJSH Head Custodian effective December 20, 2022

Nichole Osborne -MCES Classroom Assistant starting January 3, 2023
