State Senator Dale Fowler | Illinois State Senator
State Senator Dale Fowler and community members gathered on Friday to commemorate the completion of the second phase of construction at the Harrisburg skatepark. The event was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony, symbolizing the successful realization of a project that has brought numerous benefits to the local community.
"The Harrisburg skatepark has brought a number of positive benefits to our local community," stated Senator Fowler. "Not only has this skatepark provided a safe space for skateboarders, scooters, and bikers to practice and enjoy their sport, but it also promotes a great form of physical activity practicing balance and coordination."
Senator Fowler played a pivotal role in securing funding for phase two of the skatepark project. Through a $50,000 member initiative grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the necessary financial resources were obtained.
"We want to thank Senator Fowler for his work in helping us secure this grant to further bring our vision of this skatepark to life," expressed Harrisburg Township Park District Executive Director Blake Emery. "With this funding, we were able to finish bringing in new skate equipment and fixtures while adding lighting to our facility, which will offer people longer hours to enjoy the park."
Phase one of the skatepark, which was funded locally by a general obligation bond, was completed in August of 2020. The addition of phase two, made possible by Senator Fowler's efforts, has enhanced the skatepark's amenities and expanded its potential for community engagement.
"These types of grants are extremely valuable to our local communities, and I am glad to have been able to play a part in helping see this project through," concluded Senator Fowler.
The completion of the second phase of construction at the Harrisburg skatepark marks a significant milestone for the community. The skatepark not only provides a safe and enjoyable space for skateboarders, scooters, and bikers, but it also promotes physical activity and encourages the development of balance and coordination skills. Through Senator Fowler's advocacy and the securing of a member initiative grant, the skatepark's vision has been brought to life. The funding enabled the installation of new equipment, fixtures, and lighting, extending the hours of operation for park visitors. This achievement exemplifies the value of grants in supporting local communities and fostering the realization of impactful projects.
