Darren Bailey, a candidate for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District, is gaining attention as he takes on incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.) in the forthcoming primary. Bailey highlighted his endorsement from U.S. Representative Mary Miller, underscoring the divergence between him and his opponent, particularly regarding their stances on government expansion and tax increases.

“My opponent is struggling to understand why he has a primary and why Mary Miller would endorse me,” Bailey said on Facebook. “I’ve never been ok with expanding government and higher taxes and I don’t think you are either.”

“Do your research and you will see quickly and clearly how we the people have been sold out for over 30 years. Thank you for your support!”

In an effort to illustrate his point, Bailey provided a link to a page displaying a Conservative Review ranking of Bost at 52%, compared to Miller’s rating of 95%.

Earlier this week, Bailey secured an endorsement from Miller. Representing Illinois’ 15th District, Miller is recognized for her conservative advocacy and committee roles. According to SE Illinois News, Bailey has pledged to work alongside Miller and former President Donald J. Trump toward their mutual objective of "draining the swamp and putting America First."

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, endorsed Bost during a party insider meeting at Gibson’s Steakhouse in Oak Brook. The event was organized by bipartisan donor Jay Bergman and included McCarthy as an invitee of Richard Porter, a Republican Party national committeeman. During the gathering, Politico reports that McCarthy cautioned against Bailey’s congressional bid. McCarthy's tenure as House Speaker was abruptly ended by conservative members of Congress after less than one year.

Bailey's roots run deep in southern Illinois. Formerly a state senator and now a 2022 GOP candidate, he was raised on the Bailey Family Farm, which he currently owns and operates with his sons. As stated on their business website, they manage Bailey Family Grain, Bailey Family Freight, and BNB Excavating, emphasizing their dedication to preserving a lasting legacy and living out their dream daily on the farm.

Illinois’ 12th Congressional District encompasses numerous counties including Monroe, Randolph, Clinton, Perry, Jackson, Union, Alexander, Pulaski, Massac, and Johnson among others as well as most of St. Clair County and half of Coles County. The seat has been held by Bost since 2015 according to GovTrack.
