Norris City Omaha Enfield Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Jan. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Community Unit School District No. 3 was held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the District Office. The meeting was called to order by Present Joe Lane at 7:00 p.m.

Roll Call: Present- Matt McArthy, Frank Graves, Rhonda Forston, Heath Rush, Joe Lane, Kyle Hoskins, Mike Hite. Absent- None.

Others in Attendance- Matt Vollman, Superintendent; David Reavis, Principal; Carla Carter, Principal; Jessica Jackson, Treasurer.

Motion to approve the Minutes for December 18, 2023 Regular Board Meeting and Executive Session by Joe Lane. Second by Heath Rush. Unanimous vote. Motion Carried.

Motion to approve the Bills by Joe Lane. Second by Frank Graves. Roll Call Vote- Matt McArthy, yes; Frank Graves, yes; Rhonda Forston, yes; Heath Rush, yes; Joe Lane, yes; Kyle Hoskins, yes; Mike Hite, yes. Motion Carried.

Principal Reports:

NCOE Elementary/PreK/Mrs. Carter-

-Positive comments were made about the Christmas Program being split into 2 nights. One suggestion was to allow teachers and students to stay in the gym when other classes performing.

-Staff in-service- Social and Emotional Learning presented by Chris Lucas; School safety procedures and evacuation practices to the Roads Church.

NCOE Elementary/Mr. Reavis:

-Attendance is 90.6%.

-The jr high basketball team will be competing in the Little GEC and the Cisne Tournament. High School/Mr. Vollman-

-Attendance was 86.3%.

-FFA Alumni Banquet is Saturday at 6:00 pm.

-Staff in-service- School safety procedures and evacuation practices to WOVSED.

Superintendent Report:

Matt Vollman-

-Weight room roof is leaking and will need repaired at the high school.

-Damon West, famous motivational speaker, is presenting to the high school students on March 7.

Other area schools have been invited to attend and this will offset the cost.

-Mr. Vollman met with the architects and the construction company regarding the delays in the high school HVAC project. The project appears to be on schedule now.

Motion to approve the Booth Trust monthly report with a balance of $45,590.53 by Matt McArthy. Second by Heath Rush. Roll Call Vote- Matt McArthy, yes; Frank Graves, yes; Rhonda Forston, yes; Heath Rush, yes; Joe Lane, yes; Kyle Hoskins, yes; Mike Hite, yes. Motion Carried.

Motion to accept the 1 year firm bid from Synergy Partners of $2.77025 for gasoline and $3.20915 for diesel from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025 by Matt McArthy. Second by Joe Lane. Roll Call Vote- Matt McArthy, yes; Frank Graves, yes; Rhonda Forston, yes; Heath Rush, yes; Joe Lane, yes; Kyle Hoskins, yes; Mike Hite, yes. Motion Carried.

Motion to approve the 1 year maintenance program on the HVAC systems from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024 at the high school for $9000.00/year and the grade school for $8000.00/year by HSG Mechanicals by Joe Lane. Second by Mike Hite. Roll Call Vote- Matt McArthy, yes; Frank Graves, yes; Rhonda Forston, yes; Heath Rush, yes; Joe Lane, yes; Kyle Hoskins, yes; Mike Hite, yes. Motion Carried.

Joe Lane briefed the board about meeting with Prestige about facilities maintenance, security, safety and future planning of maintenance projects.

Public Input:

-None.

Motion to move into Executive Session at 7:46 p.m. by Joe Lane. Second by Matt McArthy. Unanimous Vote. Motion Carried.

Return to Regular Session at 8:10 p.m.

Motion to accept the resignation from Kevin Lewis as assistant high school softball coach by Joe Lane. Second by Matt McArthy. Unanimous Vote. Motion Carried.

Motion to accept the retirement letter from Kimberly Sutton-Phillips, teacher, with her intent to retire in 4 years by Joe Lane. Second by Matt McArthy. Unanimous Vote. Motion Carried.

Motion to adjourn at 8:12 p.m. by Joe Lane. Second by Mike Hite. Unanimous Vote. Motion Carried.
