Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met April 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, April 15, 2024 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Jamie McCorkle, Janice Alka, Susan Wood and Kyle Peach. Gregg Wilcox was absent.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, Transportation Director Sharon Thombleson, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Brianna Robinson –MCHS, Gary Deckard –MCJH, Alyson Hicks – Special Education Coordinator, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer announced the ribbon cutting ceremony/open house for the new all purpose building was a success. There are only a couple minor items left to complete on Legends Fieldhouse.

Reports – Brianna Robinson and Gary Deckard

Ms. Robinson and Mr. Deckard spoke to the Board regarding a recent art conference they attended. Both agreed the conference was very valuable and they hope to attend again next year.

Public Comments

Hometown Register Herb Meeker asked Dr. Bleyer if there was any feedback from employees or students on the recent solar eclipse. Bleyer responded that he felt like the employees were happy to have that day off to spend with their families.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.

At 7:13 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Peach and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

At 7:35 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

New Business

Chief of Operations Job Description

A motion to approve the COO job description was made by Peach and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

Approve Separation Agreement with Steve Holt

Alka motioned to approve the Separation Agreement with Steve Holt as written. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

Administrative Salaries

A motion to approve the finance committee’s recommendation for administrative salaries for the 2024-2025 school year was made by McCorkle and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka:

TRANSFERS

Mike Aubrey -MCGS 3rd Grade Special Education Teacher starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

Kristi Stevens -MCES K-2nd Grade Special Education Teacher starting the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year

VOLUNTEERS

Madelyn Young -MCJH Girls’ Golf Coach beginning April 10, 2024 Jennifer Young - MCJH Girls’ Golf Coach beginning April 10, 2024 All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent.

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Hocking and seconded by Wood. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Wilcox was absent. Meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
