Hamilton Memorial Hospital District (HMHD) in McLeansboro, Illinois, has announced temporary visitor restrictions effective immediately. The decision follows recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) due to a rise in respiratory illnesses across the state, including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.
The hospital has set forth several measures to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors. These include prohibiting visitors under 18 years old and asking those showing any signs of illness to refrain from visiting. The Emergency Department will allow only one visitor per patient, while Med Surg and Transitional Care units will permit two visitors per patient.
Patients arriving at the Emergency Department or Family Clinics with respiratory symptoms must wear a mask upon entry. Although masks are not currently required for visitors, they are encouraged. Disposable masks are available at all entrances.
HMHD advises the community to keep vaccinations up-to-date, practice frequent hand washing, and stay home if feeling unwell. More information on respiratory illnesses can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov.
