FOIA Request Sent to Wabash County Il Clerk Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Wabash County Il Clerk Election Division regarding the candidates for the upcoming spring election on February 5, 2025. The request was made by SE Illinois News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought specific details about each candidate running for office. The requested information included each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.

We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Our aim is to ensure that the public is well-informed about their prospective representatives in government.
