The Hamilton Memorial Hospital District (HMHD) Laboratory has been awarded The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval Accreditation, a mark of distinction for high standards in patient care. This accreditation reflects the laboratory's ongoing dedication to quality and safety.
The accreditation was granted following a thorough, unannounced on-site evaluation by Joint Commission surveyors. This review commenced on March 4 and focused on adherence to standards in areas such as environmental care, infection prevention, leadership, and medication management.
The Joint Commission bases its accreditation process on evidence-based standards developed with healthcare experts and extensive research. This process aims to help organizations improve performance and ensure high-quality patient care. The evaluation included direct observations and interviews by the surveyors.
Ken Grubbs, the executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer at The Joint Commission, commented on the accolade: "As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate.” He added, “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards.
