Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met July. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, July 21, 2025 in the Library of Mt. Carmel Elementary School.

President McCorkle called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Jamie McCorkle, Susan Wood, Jessica Peter, Kyle Peach, Gregg Wilcox and Janice Alka.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, Chandler Madden – WSJD, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

President McCorkle led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Superintendent’s Comments

Dr. Bleyer reported that the summer construction and renovations were moving forward. He noted that the buildings and grounds will be ready for the new school year.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”. No Executive Session.

New Business

Schedule of Fees 2025-2026

A motion to approve the 2025-2026 Schedule of Fees was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Student Handbook Changes 2025-2026

A motion to approve the Student Handbook changes for MCES, MCGS, and MCJSHS was made by Hocking and seconded by Peters. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Employee Handbook Changes 2025-2026

A motion to approve the Employee Handbook for 2025-2026 school year was made by Peter and seconded by Wood. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Food Bids 2025-2026

A motion to approve the results of the 2025-2026 Food Bids was made by Alka and seconded by Wilcox. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Egyptian Trust Insurance Plan

A motion to approve the Egyptian Trust Insurance Plan for 2025-2026 school year was made by Hocking and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Wilcox and seconded by Wood:

Elliott Laws -MCJHS ELA/RTI Paraprofessional beginning the start of the 2025-2026 school year

A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

The board agreed to hold a special board meeting on July 29th to hire more people.

A motion to adjourn was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
