Harrisburg City Council met Nov. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Harrisburg City Council met on November 30, 2017 at 8:00 am in the Council Room, City Hall, Harrisburg, Illinois.

Mayor John McPeek presided over the meeting with Commissioners Natalie Miller, Beth Montfort, Richard Harper and Mike Weirauch answering roll call.

Commissioner Harper stated the City was allowed to pass a Tax Levy for up to 105% above last year’s levy without holding a public meeting. He presented the Tax Levy for 2018/2019 in the amount of $1,845,327.00. He stated the total amount would not change but the actuarial reports had not been received for the Police and Fire pensions, so line items would be adjusted when those reports are received. He stated the proposal had to set out 20 days prior to passage at the December 21 meeting.

Commissioner Weirauch asked how much different the amount was from last year. Commissioner Harper stated it was 104.9% greater. Commissioner Weirauch asked how the City got this money. Commissioner Harper stated it came from real estate taxes. Commissioner Montfort asked if this raised taxes and was told no. Commissioner Harper stated that if the EAV increases then taxes go down. He noted that the Corporate Tax line item was $45,000.00 less. Treasurer Linda George explained that the Workmen’s Comp and Unemployment line items had to be increased and the Social Security and Medicare were adjusted for payroll needs.

Commissioner Harper moved to present the 2018/2019 Annual Tax Levy. Commissioner Weirauch seconded. By roll call vote, all voted yes. Motion carried.

Commissioner Miller moved to adjourn. Commissioner Harper seconded. By roll call vote, all voted yes. Motion carried.

Adjourned: 8: 10 am.
