Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met Nov. 8,

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Theresa Hocking, Ryan Peter, and Susan Wood.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, MCHS Assistant Principal Tyler Buss, MCJ COO Steve Holt, Betsy Ross –WCTA, Danielle Ewald –Teacher, Meredith Alka –Teacher, Dawn Drone –WCEA, Amanda Metcalf –Teacher, Ashton Gordon –Teacher, Michael Gordon –Teacher, Julie Hagerty –Teacher, Jamie McCorkle –Parent, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Maggee Bleyer –Prairie Post, Herb Meeker –Hometown Register, and

District Secretary Kim Zimmer.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Reports –Acaemic Pre-K

Ashton Gordon presented a plan to the board for a new class next year. It would be geared to help students that need more time to meet the criteria for entering Kindergarten. The Board was very favorable regarding the presentation. Jake Newkirk said that not all students had been through the Kindergarten screening process in the past but it will be a part of the registration process going forward. He also said that parents would be involved in the process of determining if their child should be enrolled in this class.

Dr. Bleyer asked Tyler Buss to explain the process for buying tickets to the football playoff game on Saturday, November 13th.

Dr. Bleyer noted to the Board that 18% of the District’s workforce for this year were new employees or had transferred into new positions.

Public Comment

Herb Meeker introduced himself to the Board. He will be covering the board meetings for the Hometown Register.

New Business

Tax Levy 2021 Payable in 2022

The Tax Levy certificate will be available for public viewing at the district office until the next regular board meeting. There is no need for a Truth in Taxation Hearing this year.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Debra Osborne -MCGS Classroom Assistant beginning November 9, 2021 Niomi Padgett -MCGS Lunch/Recess Supervisor beginning November 9, 2021

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Bonnie Keepes -MCJH Volleyball Coach beginning November 23, 2021

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Hocking and seconded by Earnest. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
