Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met Jan. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.

President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Theresa Hocking, Ryan Peter, and Susan Wood.

Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Betsy Ross –WCTA, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Tracee Bleyer –Parent, Anthony Bleyer –CEO, Eddie Johnson –MCPD, Jon King –Parent, Kimberly Cross –Parent, and Lexi Metcalf.

President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Earnest and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Visitor Anthony Bleyer (CEO Program)

Bleyer spoke about the upcoming Food Truck Jamboree scheduled for January 15, 2022. The jamboree is a fundraiser for the CEO Program.

Dr. Bleyer told the Board that Mt. Carmel High School was going remote due to staffing issues. These issues were due to Covid-19 and other illnesses. Extra-curricular activities will continue as long as there is staff coverage.

Public Comment

Jon King asked if the students could get more mask breaks. He also asked if the schools could start serving breakfast earlier.

Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees and student discipline”.

At 7:13 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Peter and seconded by Peach. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

At 8:45 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Earnest. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.

New Business

Ohio and Wabash Valley Regional Vocational System Intergovernmental Agreement and Policies

A motion to approve the agreement was made by Hocking and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Resolution declaring the intention to issue $750,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds of the District for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund of the District, and directing that notice of such intention be published in the manner provided by law A motion to adopt the resolution as read was made by Peach and seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Student Discipline

A recommendation of expulsion for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year was made for Student (CZ) who violated the Student Behavior Section of the District Governing Student Conduct as found in the Student Handbook of the District. Peter motioned to accept the recommendation and Wood seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Employment of Personnel

A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking.

TRANSFER

Michelle Lofton -MCHS Nighttime Custodian beginning January 3, 2022 All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted aye. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:02 p.m.
