Wabash Community Unit School District #348 Board of Education met Dec. 13.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, December 13, 2021 in the Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.
President Tim Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Janice Alka called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Neil Earnest, Kyle Peach, Theresa Hocking, Ryan Peter, and Susan Wood.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andrew Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCES Principal Jake Newkirk, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Kyle Buss –Athletic Director, Michael Brewer –Curriculum/Grant Coordinator/MCHS Football Coach, Sharon Thombleson –Transportation, Jared Bore –Parent, Amanda Bore –
Parent, Darlene Underwood-District Treasurer, Betsy Ross –WCTA, Kristenia Sloss, Brenda Bobbitt, Jamie McCorkle –Parent, Kevin Madden –WSJD, Kim Mandrell – MCHS Music Teacher, MCHS Football Players Luke Laws, Eli Swanson, Zach Allen, Dirk Kight, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The MCHS Music students performed one of their songs from the 2021 Christmas Madrigal.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Peach and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Dr. Bleyer noted that the Illinois State Board of Education is not allowing districts to use Remote Learning Days in place of snow days any longer.
Mt. Carmel High School Football Coach Michael Brewer
Brewer and Team Captains Luke Laws, Eli Swanson, Zach Allen, and Dirk Kight spoke to the Board regarding their experience in the football playoffs this year. Coach Brewer told the Board the Team Captains had done an excellent job leading the team.
Reports –Kemper CPA Group – School Audit 2020-2021
Aubrey Eblen from the Kemper CPA Group presented the 2020-2021 School Audit Report to the Board.
Public Comment
There was no public comment.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.
At 7:26 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
At 7:54 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Earnest. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Alka and seconded by Hocking. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried.
New Business
Tax Levy 2021 Payable in 2022
A motion to approve the Tax Levy 2021 payable in 2022 was made by Earnest and seconded by Hocking. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
School Audit 2020-2021
A motion to approve the 2020-2021 School Audit as presented was made by Alka and seconded by Earnest. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Wabash General Hospital Strength and Conditioning Coach Services Agreement Kyle Buss addressed the Board regarding the need for a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the district’s athletes. The cost for the services to be paid to Wabash General Hospital will come from Pay to Play monies as well as the General Ed Fund. Upon the recommendation from President Schuler to accept the agreement, a motion was made by Alka and seconded by Peach. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
Employment of Personnel
A motion to approve the following employment recommendations was made by Peach and seconded by Alka. All present voted AYE. Motion Carried.
