Wabash Community Unit School District 348 Board of Education met Oct. 16.

The Board of Education of Wabash Community Unit School District #348, Wabash County, met in Regular Session on Monday, October 16, 2023 in Cafetorium of Mt. Carmel Grade School.
President Schuler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Secretary Theresa Hocking called the roll. In addition to the secretary, those present were Tim Schuler, Gregg Wilcox (via teleconference), Susan Wood, Janice Alka, and Kyle Peach. Jamie McCorkle was absent.
Also present were Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer, MCJSH Principal Andy Shelby, MCGS Principal Brianne Foster, MCJSH COO Steve Holt, Chandler Madden –WSJD, Herb Meeker – Hometown Register, Shelly Harris –Parent, Rob Kennard –Parent, Darian Nue, Amber Moore, Zedrick Moore, Justin Swanson, Mallory Harrison, Emily Gottman, Elyse Swanson, Zeme Moore, Miley Kennard, Maria Kennard, Ava Brumagin, Karin Kelsey –Golf Coach, and District Secretary Kim Zimmer.
President Schuler led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Alka and seconded by Wood. A roll call vote was taken and all present voted AYE. Motion Carried. McCorkle was absent.
Visitors –Karin Kelsey with MCHS Girls’ Golf Team
Coach Kelsy introduced the following six members of the girls’ golf team: Emily Gottman, Elyse Swanson, Zeme Moore, Miley Kennard, Maria Kennard, and Ava Brumagin. The team won the state championship for the third year in a row. Each player commented on their favorite memory from the past season.
Superintendent’s Comments
Dr. Bleyer said the phase 2 renovation at the stadium is not yet complete. The ribbon cutting ceremony has been postponed.
Public Comments
Shelly Harris addressed the board concerning the manner in which parking passes are delegated to the high school students. She still wants to see a change in the process for distributing the passes.
Executive Session pursuant to Section 2 (C)(1) of the Open Meetings Act: “The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees”.
At 7:21 p.m. a motion to go into closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. McCorkle was absent.
At 7:44 p.m. a motion to return to open session was made by Alka and seconded by Wood. Motion Carried. McCorkle was absent.
A motion to approve the minutes as read in closed session was made by Hocking and seconded by Alka. All present voted Aye. Motion Carried. McCorkle was absent.
