City of Carmi City Council met Oct. 17.

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 225 East Main Street for the regularly scheduled Carmi City Council Meeting.
Prior to opening of the council meeting, Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Winkleman to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Pollard presided with the following Alderperson’s present: Steve Winkleman, Mark W. Blake, Tracy Nelson, Lacey Bradshaw, Doug Hays, Jeremy Courson, and Sheila Headlee. Absent: Mike Knight
The minutes from the October 3, 2023 council meeting were presented. Motion was made by Alderperson Courson and seconded by Alderperson Hays to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderperson present answering “yes.”
The September 2023 Financial Reports for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments were presented for approval. Alderperson Headlee made a motion to approve the September 2023 Financial Reports for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Winkleman. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderperson present answering “yes.”
The October 2023 vendor invoices for the City of Carmi and Light & Water Departments were presented for approval. Alderperson Winkleman made a motion to approve the October 2023 vendor invoices. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Headlee. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderperson present answering “yes.”

Reports and/or updates from Mayor Pollard
Mayor Pollard thanked all the City of Carmi employees who worked very hard to help prepare and clean up for Corn Day. Special thanks to Chief Carter and his officers who helped maintain order and make it a fun and safe Corn Day for the community.
Mayor Pollard stated, “I am very humbled to be setting with Royalty, King Alderman Doug Hays who was named Carmi Chamber Citizen of the Year.” Congratulations also to Dave Matheny, State Farm, for Chamber Business of the Year, Cole Carter for Chamber Young Professional of the Year, and Amber Knight for her dedication and passion for the City of Carmi.
Trick-or-Treat will be Tuesday, October 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. Please remember to only stop at the houses with their porch lights on.
The City and the Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting Trunk-or-Treat again this year from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Halloween in the parking lot behind the City building. So far, we have approximately 9 entries. If you would like to participate, please reach out to Holly Healy at 618-384-2001 or wedg@cityofcarmi.com as soon as possible.

Alderperson Winkleman thanked the City of Carmi for all of the work they do for the Kiwanis Corn Day celebration.
Business or Comments from Visitors
Carmi resident, Bryan Sullivan, was present and had some concerns regarding a road by his home on First Street. Mr. Sullivan said the road has been patched a few times but it is still in need of repair. Mayor Pollard said he would take a look at the road and see what could be done to help fix it.
