A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Edwards County Clerk's office on January 14, 2025. The request was made by SE Illinois News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request sought records of candidates running for the 2025 Consolidated Elections. Specifically, we asked for a list that includes each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are running for.
As members of the media at SE Illinois News, we are committed to gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Edwards County Clerk's office regarding this request. We continue our mission of ensuring accountability and transparency in local government affairs through diligent reporting and investigation.
