Dale Fowler, Republican candidate for state Senate from District 59, recently opined via his Facebook page that “Illinois needs citizen legislators, not professional politicians.”
“The people of Southern Illinois are sick and tired of Chicago’s political control over our state,” Fowler wrote. “Sign this petition today to join me in supporting term limits!”
Constituents can sign the petition online — and volunteer, if desired — by going to http://petition-dalefowler.nationbuilder.com/
“Government continues to grow and politicians keep spending more money just to make sure they get their job back in Springfield,” the candidate said. “Too often, the politicians are willing to sell that power to the highest bidder and use their power to enrich their cronies and themselves.”
Consequently, Fowler said, campaign “slush funds” continue to grow while families and senior citizens endure cutbacks.
“We have seen the results [and] have had enough,” Fowler said. “It is time for the people of Illinois to be heard.”
The petition reads in part: “We the undersigned hereby support enacting term limits for politicians. Elective office should not be a job, but rather a service to the people of Illinois. We therefore pledge our support for term limits for elected officials and urge the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate to pass a bill creating term limits.”
