Fairfield Community High School District #225 Board of Education met Aug. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Fairfield Community High School District #225 met in the study hall for a special meeting on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. for the purpose of approval of an updated Return to School Plan, Teachers/Staff handbook, accept a resignation and consideration of personnel and contract negotiations. The following members answered to roll call:

Also in attendance were: Jill Fulkerson, Superintendent/Principal; Bobby Wells, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director; Rhonda Buchanan; Ken Otey, WFIW; David Mills, Wayne County Press; Melvin and Julie Harrelson; and Josh Kiefer.

As part of public comment Melvin Harrelson addressed the board regarding his opinion of the latest mask mandate urging the board to keep the decision as optional.

Motion by J. C. McDuffee, seconded by Jeremy Carter to approve the updated Return to School Plan.

Motion by J. C. McDuffee, seconded by Tony Conrad to approve the Teacher/Staff handbook.

Motion by Kim King, seconded by Matt Rush to accept the retirement resignation of Peggy Garrison as a bus driver.

Motion carried.

Motion by Tony Conrad, seconded by Kim King to convene to executive session at 5:41 P.M. for the purpose of consideration on employment of a paraprofessional for Special Education, employment of a bus driver and contract agreement with the Fairfield Education Association.

Motion by Matt Rush, seconded by Jeremy Carter to reconvene from executive session at 5:54 P.M.

Motion by Kim King, seconded by Jeremy Carter to hire Chet Snyder as a paraprofessional for the Special Education department.

President Miller called for the right to revert to prior order of business. Josh Kiefer was granted permission to speak to the board in regards to his stance on the most recent mask mandate.

Motion by Matt Rush, seconded by Tony Conrad to adjourn at 6:20 P.M.
