State Senators Sue Rezin and Jil Tracy have introduced new legislation aimed at providing financial relief to families with children enrolled in daycare and pre-K programs in Illinois. The proposed legislation includes state tax credits to help offset the costs parents incur for preschool and childcare.
During a State Capitol press conference on March 21, Sen. Rezin emphasized the financial struggles faced by parents, stating, “Any parent or guardian of a young child will tell you that one of the greatest financial hardships that growing families face is the lack of access to affordable, high-quality preschool and childcare.” She introduced Senate Bill 2717, which would offer a tax credit to parents or guardians of children aged 3 to 5 attending eligible preschool programs, up to $1,500 per child.
Sen. Tracy, on the other hand, highlighted the economic challenges faced by families in Illinois, mentioning, “Families throughout Illinois are finding it difficult to make ends meet as high inflation and other economic pressures impact their bottom line.” She is sponsoring Senate Bill 3104, which aims to provide a state tax credit to families for each qualifying child on their income taxes, offering financial relief for those paying for childcare services.
In support of the legislation, Senator Fowler emphasized the importance of supporting growing families and providing children and their parents with the best opportunities possible.
As the legislative session progresses, Senate Republicans are advocating for bipartisan cooperation to address these crucial issues and improve the lives of families in Illinois.
