METROPOLIS, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst is reminding local residents of best practices following the outbreak of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on Sunday evening throughout Southern Illinois. Rep. Windhorst is offering the following list of advice for residents and businesses that have experienced major storm damage.

Rep. Windhorst advises residents to prioritize safety by avoiding downed power lines and being cautious of potential gas leaks. "Please make sure to stay away from any downed power lines and report them immediately to your utility company," he stated.

He also recommends documenting damage for insurance purposes and seeking professional assistance when necessary. "Take photos or videos of the damage for your records before you begin any cleanup or repairs," Windhorst said.

Windhorst emphasizes the importance of checking in on neighbors, particularly those who are elderly or have special needs. "It's crucial that we look out for one another during times like these," he added.

Additionally, Windhorst suggests that businesses review their emergency plans and ensure that all employees are aware of safety protocols. "Businesses should take this opportunity to reassess their emergency preparedness plans," he mentioned.

The representative concluded with a reminder to follow local news for updates and instructions from authorities. "Stay informed through reliable sources as more information becomes available about recovery efforts," he urged.
