The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) can continue to offer hugely needed care to the veterans of the state with the passage of the Stopgap Budget, SB 2047.

The bill’s passing maintains funding needed for the four Veteran’s Homes across the state.

“We thank the General Assembly for working with the governor to pass SB 2047,” IDVA Director Erica Jeffries said. “While this is not a permanent solution, it will allow us to serve our veterans — ensuring that they get the benefits and care they have earned.”

The Veteran’s Homes currently care for more than 900 veterans throughout the state, and the bill permits the building of a much-needed new Veteran’s Home that will house 200 military heroes in north Chicago. The project has been on hold for the past year.

In addition, many services will also be offered to veterans in Illinois throughout the year, including the transport and placement of veterans’ headstones, Troops to Teachers program, and extra payments to veterans or their family members.
