Chicago (66,673 cases) and Cook County (50,498 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,831, while Cook County recorded 2,143 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,439,272, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 39,867 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 98,121 were male and 107,579 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,200, while female deaths stood at 3,576.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,514 Asians, 3,514 whites, 2,102 African-Americans, 1,596 Hispanics, and 204 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
